Even More Bang for Your Buck!

Though the Stingray (EM7K00CB) was first released a couple of months ago, we have now received three new models. While the EM7K0CB features Arabic numerals, the new models have bar indices. http://www.chinwatch.co/hublot-watches.html Each of the indices (including hands) features lumination markers. In the new models, the day is at the 9 o’clock and the date is at the 3 o’clock which may seem like an unconventional design; however, along with the numbered chapter ring, this design choice allows for easier reading. The case is all stainless steel with a nice polished bezel and contrasting brushed side wall.

This gives the case dimension and a subtle glean. You’ll find the push-out crown at the four o’clock position (which is neat), and the date pusher at the three. The watch comes at a great size, about 42mm wide and 12mm thick. It has great presence on the wrist, but is thin enough to be tucked under the cuff. There is an exhibition case back and behind the green-tinted crystal is the famous 46943 caliber movement.  All Stingrays come on a rubber strap that is comfortable, which is especially important if you’re the type that wears your watch all day. The rubber definitely makes this a sporty piece which is perfect for everyday wear.

The Starfish is a great alternative to the Stingray. Similar in size, thickness, and movement caliber, the distinguishing difference is seen in the case design. Three out of the four feature Arabic twelve and six at the top and bottom of the dial, while the rest are stainless steel bars. And contrary to the Stingray, the lumination is only seen to the hands and the tips of the indices. While this may seem as a negative, the lumination is still very bright and the dial is legible. The bezel is not polished, but brushed like the rest of the case. While the Stingray comes in only white and black dials, there is more of a variety with the starfish. The Starfish comes with a well-made leather band that serves to dress the watch up. The white model (AW) features a nice dark brown band. Paired with the white dial, this could certainly pass as a dressier watch that could be worn with dressy-casual attire.

Bedat & Co. No. 8 Watch

Bedat & Co. has an interesting history for not being such an old brand. Life, lost, and then reborn, the brand today is now trying to attack Cartier's market share for women's pieces. http://www.tempsmeilleur.comDuring the brand's former life (and potentially again in its future) it had a few men's models as well. One of my favorite of them (and one of the only ones) was the Bedat & Co. Number (No.) 8.

Wit a sort of cushion shaped case that had a round dial, the watch comes in a few flavors. There was a power reserve model, and one with a bit date, as well as this most basic version that happened to also be a limited edition model. This is known as the Ref. 878 series of Bedat & Co. No. 8 men's watches. Each of the versions (a few steel, gold, and maybe a platinum one) were offered as a limited edition of just 878 pieces.

The dials started with Bedat's really nice hands. For good luck, the number 8 was place at o'clock in contrast to the other applied baton hour markers. Each model has a deeply textured dial with a sunburst motif. The dials came in three colors, being black, silver, and slate. For the life of me I can't find the size of the case. I've seen them, and I think they are about 40mm wide, but I can't find the measurement online.

Linde Werdelin SpidoSpeed Chronograph Watch

I think that the perlage polish applied base dial will be a stunning design element on this new watch from Linde Werdelin. With a release date of around May 2011, the new SpidoSpeed is the next iteration of the SpidoLite watch concept, and the brand's first chronograph model.The relatively svelte case needed to be increased by 3mm in height to incorporate the mechanical chronograph movement. I actually like that - as the design of the case can accommodate a chunky look quite well. The watch is now 44mm wide by 15mm tall.

The SpidoSpeed is in steel, not titanium. Will there be future models in titanium? Probably. What you see here is only the first "Series A" model of the watch. There will be 100 pieces of this version, and after that Linde Werdelin likely has a few tricks up their sleeve for other versions. You can see the complex make up of the case, and the nearly integrated chronograph pushers. Prone to now using interesting movements, inside the SpidoSpeed is a Concepto caliber 2251 - a movement I have never heard about. I suspect it is a maybe a base ETA or Frederic Piguet that has been decorated or redone by Concepto. Linde Werdelin does use their own rotor, which is quite neat looking with a web patter and done in black.
