Oris Big Crown Propilot Altimeter

For 2014, Oris continues to innovate with the introduction of the Big Crown Propilot Altimeter, the first automatic watch with an altimeter. http://www.chinwatch.co What makes the watch interesting is not only the first it presents,but how well it fits within Oris’ existing model lineup.

Available in three different flavors—bracelet, black strap, and green strap—the watch is bold and sporty, like much of the existing Oris range. The barometer and altimeter pop from the dial thanks to bright coloring, but interestingly enough, the Propilot Altimeter never feels too over the top. For a watch of the first of its kind, the dial is remarkably simplistic, clear, and displays only what’s required.

The altimeter itself is another story, however. For the complication to work, the crown at 4 o’clock must be unscrewed in order to let air into the 47mm case, which enables an internal aneroid capsule to expand and contract, moving the altimeter hands.
